ORLANDO, Fla. – Wednesday, August 3, 2011 – Wholesome Tummies, the Orlando-based healthy school lunch provider company created by two mothers, has awarded its seventh franchise and its third in Florida, while also expanding its services.
The new franchise was awarded to Kelly McGary, a former finance executive, who after reading about Wholesome Tummies felt the business aligned with her core values and she opted to start the service in the Tampa Bay area. Two schools – St. John’s Episcopal Day School and St. Mary’s Episcopal Day School – have already signed on to start offering the healthy lunches in the fall.
McGary, a mother of two small children, said Wholesome Tummies provides an ideal solution for balancing good nutrition with a busy career and family. “When I first learned about Wholesome Tummies, I knew I would be a customer,” McGary said. “And then I knew I wanted to be an owner.”
McGary envisions a partnership in which her focus on producing quality, nutritious lunches allows schools to focus on their core mission of educating children. She intends to become a champion of healthful food and active lifestyles in the Tampa Bay area by encouraging families to talk about nutrition, food origins, and health. “We’ll all just feel better if we put more of the good stuff in our bodies,” said McGary.
Wholesome Tummies provides thousands of meals to public and private school children each month. The company recently launched WT Café, a new kitchen management service which brings cost efficiencies to schools and provides an enhanced lunch experience for students.
Co-founders Debbie Blacher and Samantha Gotlib launched the franchise option last year to expand their mission to change school meal plans from high-fat and processed foods to fresh, natural selections. Franchises have been awarded in Florida in South Jacksonville and North Palm Beach County, and around the country in North Atlanta, Georgia; Las Vegas, Nevada and Columbus, Ohio.
